Tile Restore

Sample project

Regrouting a 1960s bathroom floor in Brunswick

Crumbling, stained grout lines on an older mosaic floor were raked out and replaced, with the wall-to-floor joint resealed.

This is a sample write-up showing how a project is described. It is not a completed customer job.

The problem

The original cement grout had worn back below the tile edges in places and held years of soap scum. Water was getting into the joints, and a few tiles had started to feel slightly loose underfoot.

What we did

  1. Checked the floor tile by tile to find any loose or hollow-sounding pieces.
  2. Raked out the old grout to a consistent depth without chipping the tile edges.
  3. Vacuumed and damp-wiped the joints so the new grout could bond cleanly.
  4. Packed the joints with a colour-matched grout and cleaned the haze off the surface.
  5. Replaced the perished silicone at the floor and wall junction once the grout had cured.

The result

The floor reads as one even surface again, the joints are firm, and the bathroom is easier to wipe down.
